The popularity of vintage costume jewelry began to grow soon after the First World War and peaked in the 1960s. Today vintage costume pieces are considered collectibles worth several times their original sale price. Costume jewelry actually originated on the stages and festivals in Europe before becoming popular in the United States. U.S. companies began dominating the design and manufacturing costume jewelry in the afternoon onwards 1920. Some popular and highly coveted vintage costume pieces are made by some of these U.S. companies such as:
Art
Carnegie
Weiss
Eisenberg
Coro
But what makes costume jewelry valuable and how to identify? The true origin of the pieces of vintage clothing dating back to stages and theaters in Europe. The fashion jewelry but became popular in the United States when he was brought back to the country by returning GI War II. American manufacturers began dominating the industry since the 1920s. Signed vintage costume necklaces, rings and other pieces are worth more money. Some companies American popular known for producing high quality parts and highly collectible include:
Trifari
Eisenberg
Art
Carnegie
Coventry
For anyone who can identify pieces of value, collecting vintage jewelry can be a very profitable hobby or side line. The value is determined by:
The rarity of the piece
Demand
Design
Quality of Construction and Building Materials
Current Status
Prices of vintage jewelry are very diverse and one of the big reasons is because supply is so varied. While there were dozens of manufacturers, all produced in quantities various jewels. Big companies like Coro and Trifari commonly produced thousands of pieces of each design. DeMario, McClelland, and other small businesses may only have batch sizes numbering in the hundreds. Therefore, if all other factors remain the same, a piece signed by a company like DeMario normally sold more than a similar piece from Trifari. But you really have to do your homework because even some of the greatest players produced some pieces of specialty in lot sizes limited and therefore worth more.
While rarity plays an important role in the overall value of any particular Neclace or sale, demand always plays the role more important. Higher demand means higher prices. Despite having some rather odd designs, signed Miriam Haskel jewelry is in high demand in these moments. If you want to collect vintage jewelry and make money, then you need to research a little and know what parts are in demand and which are not. True collectors seek the benefits that people remember that the parts do not always have great designs or materials – but they still tend to be more profitable to collect.
Why why people prefer one piece over another, even if their choice was the necklace, brooch, etc. of lower value? The demand for a piece is stimulated by most of the design royal jewelry. Novice collectors tend to focus exclusively on signed pieces but often is the case of the firm, well-designed pieces to become the most profitable for collect. Many pieces of vintage clothing, including those by some of the largest manufacturers, are actually unsigned but still very valuable. You can identify unsigned pieces and usually snap up cheaply by simply being able to design great spot. Unsigned pieces by companies such as Bergere B. and David are highly prized by collectors and can be identified by their distinctive designs of quality, but high.
The overall design is accentuated by the quality of craftsmanship and materials used to produce each piece. The quality of gemstones, in particular, plays a key role in determining the value of a particular piece of clothing jewelry. A handful of manufacturers of vintage jewelry are famous for using gemstones of exceptionally high quality. Bogoff, Eisenberg, and Weiss are all great investments because they almost always had great designs with fabulous, high quality stones.
Eisenberg costume necklaces, earrings and other pieces tend to be difficult to find in flea markets or through online auctions. If you are trying to find some profitable pieces to purchase at cheap prices but still much to command serious investors, look for jewelry made by these companies:
Danecraft
Kramer
Bogoff
Weiss
Monet
As with all antique valuations, the final condition of the piece plays a key role in determining prices. Lost stones, excessive scratches, peeling, discoloration and are all factors that lower the value of a piece of vintage costume jewelry. However, even ancient necklaces, rings and other pieces are coveted by investors and collectors that are worth much money, even in less than perfect conditions. Collection of vintage costume pieces is still a very profitable business so nobody knows how to identify the truly profitable pieces.
