First, let's talk about the origin of the word "Halloween": many of the nations on the eve of Halloween will held a celebration also called "All Hallow suffer the", "On the eve of All" Hallows ", will suffer the Hallow" or eve "The Day of All Saint ", and last evolved as a convention into" Halloween ", in Chinese we call it" on Halloween night.
Halloween is an annual celebration, but only what is really a celebration of? And how did this peculiar custom comes? Is it, as some claim, a kind of devil worship? Or is it just a harmless vestige of some ancient pagan ritual?
In the Middle Ages, the central Europe had a history of the demolition of the heathen, but the ceremony of sacrifice before the New Year's Eve has never been laid back in fact, and has now appeared as a wizard. That's why in today Hallowmas, we are still familiar with witches' brooms, black cats and curses.
Halloween is one of the oldest holidays with origins going back thousands of years. The celebration we know as Halloween has had many influences from different cultures during centuries. Day Pomona Romans, the Celtic festival of Samhain, to the Christian holidays of All Saints and All Souls Day.
Hundreds of years ago in what is now Great Britain and Northern France, lived the Celts. The Celts worshiped nature and had many gods, with the sun god as their favorite. It was "he" who commanded their work and rest time, and that made the earth beautiful and the growth of crops.
The word itself, "Halloween" actually has its origins in the Catholic Church. This is a contracted corruption of All Hallows Eve. November 1st, "Day of All Hollows "(or" All Saints Day "), a Catholic is a day of observance in honor of saints. But in the 5th century BC in Celtic Ireland, summer officially ended on October 31. The festival was called Samhain (SOW-ES), the Celtic New Year.
One story says that, on that day, the disembodied spirits of those who had died during the preceding year would come back in search of living bodies to possess for the next year. He believes his only hope for the afterlife. The Celts believed all laws of space and time were suspended during this time, allowing the spirit world which intermingle with the living.
Naturally, the still-living did not want to be possessed. So on the night of October 31, villagers would extinguish fires in their homes to make them cold and undesirable. Then, dressed in all manner of ghoulish costumes and noisily paraded around the neighborhood, being as destructive as possible in order to frighten away spirits looking for bodies to possess.
Probably a better explanation of why the Celts off their fire is not to discourage spirit possession, but that all the Celtic tribes could relight the fires from a common source, the Druidic fire that was kept burning in the Middle of Ireland, Usinach.
Some stories tell of how the Celts would burn someone at the stake was thought to have been possessed, as a sort of lesson to the spirits. Other accounts of Celtic history debunk these stories as myth.
The Romans adopted the Celtic practices as own. But in the first century AD, Samhain was assimilated into celebrations of some of the other Roman traditions that took place in October, as their day to honor Pomona, the goddess Roman fruit and trees. The symbol of Pomona is the apple, which might explain the origin of our modern tradition of the shock of the apples on Halloween.
Regarding the origin of Halloween, which relates the legend Most viewed that Halloween was the former Western European countries before the birth of Christ, who mainly includes Ireland, Scotland and Wales. These ancient western Europeans were also called Celts or Druids. The date of the Celts or Druids New Year is November 1, and New Year's Eve, young people in the Druids were gathered on a computer and using masks different rare, led lamps carved radish and wandered among peoples.
The momentum of the practices has also changed over time to become more ritualized. As belief in spirit possession declined, the practice of dressing up as goblins, ghosts, witches and assumed a more ceremonial role.
This is necessary to explain that the pumpkin lamp is a habit lately appeared, and no pumpkin in the former Western Europe. In fact, Halloween is a ceremony held for the fall harvest, and also stated as a day of "ghost" is a legend says that the souls of the dead that in the year to return to visit the world and people should live let the soul back to see the landscape of their successful harvest and give them a rich banquet. So all Needfire and lamps were used to scare the souls influence ghosts, and the same time, to light the way home from the phantoms and guide them back.
