Ibanez is probably the best known of all Japanese guitar makers. The company was founded in Nagoya, Japan in 1957 as a subsidiary of Hoshino Gakki, a Japanese importer of musical instruments Ibanez brand began to make their own models.

Ibanez copies originally American designs. Early models of the range includes the 2364, a copy of the famous Ampeg Dan Armstrong guitar in clear plastic, the 2347, a Gibson SG / Les Paul copy Junior, 2351, which was much like a Gibson Les Paul, and 2348, a near-exact copy of a non-reverse Firebird Gibson. These fine copies executed easily could pass as the real thing, and this led to Gibson sued for copyright infringement in 1977. Interestingly, the demand was not directed at the blatant copying Forms body Ibanez Gibson guitars, but the head design. The case was settled out of court in 1978 and Ibanez introduced their own designs.

Some of these designs were the Destroyer, a Gibson Explorer-like shape with new parts added to the form and the introduction of said head Ibanez classical artist, a more traditional form, with two short sections of equal size and a head modified to avoid any legal problem, the roll of rockets, a copy of a Gibson Flying V but with pointed head and no pickguard Ibanez, and Iceman. This guitar had a unique and very unusual. It resembles a Gibson Explorer with a cut left hand, a strange cut in the bottom and an extra large cut on the right hand horn that allows access to higher frets. The Destroyer was originally available with two or three pickup trucks, the Artist, with two humbuckers only, Iceman, two Ibanez humbuckers designed or truck with three coils. The Iceman and the Artist models still in the range of Ibanez in 2008.

The 1980s saw improvements even more to the Ibanez range, which would add to its growing status. The company became a pioneer and leading exponent of superstrat, a style still popular today. A superstrat is a Fender Stratocaster-style shape, but made to be used by heavy metal guitarists. Not only was he who developed this style Ibanez. Companies as Jackson Charvel and has also contributed to the soloist and Spectrum, respectively. Horns Visually, a superstrat is a Stratocaster, usually without striker, longer, pointed and more cuts. Usually the guitars with 24 frets neck, Floyd Rose tremolo systems and three trucks (usually a humbucker in neck position, single coil and humbucker in the center on the bridge, although some schemes that had).

The lead guitar in the Ibanez range superstrat is RG. This guitar was introduced in 1985 and was later joined by Saber, with a very similar, but less pointed horns and a very thin body, probably the thinnest of any guitar production. In the late 1980s Ibanez collaborated with the talented guitarist Steve Vai, whose curriculum now includes Whitesnake, David Lee Roth's solo band and his solo work. He had lost favor with custom Charvel guitar, which had been stolen, so now we need a new guitar. He and Ibanez came up with a design superstrat with 24 frets, setup and collection aforementioned grip handle in the body known as the Monkey Grip Vai. He and Ibanez also designed a seven-string guitar, the Universe.

Other Ibanez has worked with artists and free to include models Paul Gilbert signature, with its signature models PGM (at the time of writing Gilbert just designed a new model, a man of ice with a cut inverted body and extra), Joe Satriani, signed JS, Herman Li and Sam Totman, guitarists for extreme power metal band DragonForce, with the E-Gen and STM, respectively, and Munky, guitarist of the band metal KoRn, Apex with his signature.
