The jazz bass sounds much more prominent and brighter. Really stands out if you're playing rock music. I'm definitely more a jazz fan under partly because I play a lot of rock, which means some quick moves around the neck. Given the low J is a nut which makes it much thinner easier to play that low P, in my opinion.
